The gallerize jewels Difference

We started selling lab-made diamonds in 2012 as an eco-friendly option. Since then, we've kept improving:

We check most of our suppliers to make sure they're safe for workers.

We encourage our suppliers to use more wind and solar power.

Some of our diamonds are made using clean energy.

By 2025, half of our lab diamonds will come from certified green sources.

Lab-grown diamonds are made in special labs using advanced technology. These labs copy the conditions found deep underground where natural diamonds form. Lab diamonds are made of carbon atoms, just like natural diamonds. They're arranged in the same way, so they look and behave exactly like natural diamonds. People also call them lab-created, man-made, engineered, or cultured diamonds.

How Are Lab Grown Diamonds Made?

Lab-grown diamonds start from tiny diamond seeds. Scientists use two main methods to grow them:

There are two primary methods of producing lab diamonds:

  • High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT): This uses a big machine that squeezes carbon under very high pressure and heat, just like how diamonds form in the earth.

  • Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD): This puts a diamond seed in a special chamber with hot gases. The gases break down and form layers of diamond around the seed.

It takes about 6-10 weeks to grow a rough diamond. Then, it's cut and polished to make jewelry.

Lab Grown Diamonds vs. Natural Diamonds

Lab-grown and natural diamonds look exactly the same to the eye. The only real difference is where they come from - one forms in the earth, the other in a lab.

Lab diamonds have the same looks and qualities as natural ones. They sparkle and shine just the same. There might be tiny differences inside the diamonds, but these don't change how they look. Only special tools can tell lab diamonds from natural ones.

It's important to understand the difference between lab-grown diamonds and diamond look-alikes (called simulants). Lab-grown diamonds are made from carbon, just like natural diamonds. Simulants, like moissanite and cubic zirconia, may look like diamonds but aren't made from real carbon crystals.

Two of the most common diamond simulants are moissanite and cubic zirconia.

  • When picking a diamond, knowing what your partner likes will help you decide which of the 4 C's (cut, color, clarity, and carat) matter most. Usually, sparkle (which comes from the cut) and color are the top priorities, while diamond size might not be as important. The shape, depth, and symmetry of a diamond can also affect how big it looks. Longer shapes, like oval and emerald, tend to look bigger than round diamonds because they hold more of their weight in their length and depth.
  • If you're looking to save on the engagement ring band, consider white gold instead of platinum. Platinum is the priciest metal, while white gold still has a shiny, cool-toned finish. Plus, white gold doesn’t rust, tarnish, or corrode and is great for detailed designs.

So cubic zirconia and moissanite aren’t diamonds of any kind, though they can look very similar..

Cubic zirconia and moissanite are not real diamonds, but they can look very similar. Since they don’t have the same chemical or physical properties as real or lab-grown diamonds, they're much cheaper. You can usually tell them apart from real diamonds just by looking.

Real and lab-grown diamonds conduct heat differently than cubic zirconia, so a handheld diamond tester can tell the difference. However, some lab-grown and natural colored diamonds can be mistaken for moissanite because they conduct electricity in a similar way. But gemologists (experts in gems) can tell them apart based on how they bend light. Moissanite bends light in two directions (double refractive), while diamonds bend it in only one direction (single refractive).

Lab Grown Diamond Benefits

Lab-grown diamonds are a great alternative to mined diamonds. They look the same, are responsibly made, and cost less. Some key benefits of lab-grown diamonds include:

  • Fewer flaws
  • More affordable
  • Unique colors that are hard to find in nature
  • Clear origins from ethical sources
  • Lab methods like HPHT and CVD help meet demand without harming the environment or people.

Lab Diamonds By Color

Our lab-grown diamonds come in different shades of colorless. We also have lab-created diamonds in rare fancy colors, like vivid yellows, blues, and pinks. These fancy colors form when trace elements are present during the diamond's growth, just like in nature. Lab-grown fancy colored diamonds are more affordable than natural ones.

How Are Lab Grown Diamonds Certified and Graded?

Lab-grown diamonds are certified and graded in the same way as natural diamonds. Experts from organizations like the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the International Gemological Institute (IGI) assess the 4 C's: cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. After evaluating these factors, they provide a report, which can be either physical or digital.

Sustainably Rated Lab Grown Diamonds

Like natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds are graded by professionals who use the 4 C’s to assess each stone. Organizations such as GIA and IGI then issue a report detailing these grades.
